Feng Shui Meets Design: North Entryway

Feng Shui can be adapted to any style of interior design — here we did a 1930s Colonial Revival house

We use Feng Shui to inform our designs, and we believe the most stunning interior design is the implementation of our Feng Shui findings.

This entryway in Winchester, MA is located in a Colonial home. When we select wallpapers, color palettes, and furnishings we honor the style and architecture of the house as much as the taste of the current occupants. (It would not do to put mid-century or art deco wallpaper in a Dutch Colonial or Victorian!)

The first step in the design process is to assess the Feng Shui of the room. This entryway is located in the North, which is ruled by Water. Consequently, we painted the front door “New York State of Mind” by Benjamin Moore, which is a lovely navy / royal blue. The blue represents Water, the element of the North. So, this door is pumping up the owner’s Career. However, we painted the outside of the door “Heritage Red” by Benjamin Moore, because the house sits to the South, which makes it a “Li House” or Fame house, according to the Eight Mansion theory of Feng Shui. The element of a Li House is Fire, so a red door is pumping up the whole house.
